Cup Heartbreak for the Lions
- Under 15s Lions 0
- Greets Green Albion 2
Today’s cup game saw us pitched against Division 1 high flyers Greets Green Albion. As expected Greets Green having plenty of the ball knocking it about the pitch with some confidence. Lions showing true grit and determination by closing down and harassing the opposition. William being called into action when a looping shot threatened to creep in just under the bar with William making a finger-tip save. This followed quickly with a goal line clearance from Bradley as Lions started to grow in confidence and got a foothold in the game with a number of counter attacks, but not really forcing the Greets Green Keeper into a save. William made a super-save, getting down to his left and stopping a powerful shot from just inside the box off a Greets Green midfielder. The teams went in at half time 0-0. Half-time score; Tipton Youth Lions 0, Greets Green Albion 0.
Greets Green fast out the blocks continued to push Lions back, but Lions standing strong and playing in a positive manner. It looked like it might be Lions day when following a number of missed chances and a strike against the cross bar from Greets Green, and with Lions creating plenty of half chances but unable to convert. Lions best chance of the half was when the ball fell to Connor, tried to lob the Keeper, who was out of his goal, saw his shot just dip agonisingly over. The game seemed destined for extra time but it was heart break for Lions, when in the last minute, a ball came over from the left for the Greets Green Striker to convert. The Lions players dropped to the ground absolutely deflated after giving so much to the cause. It seemed cruel when Greets Green added a second in injury time in which was a truly fantastic performance from every single Lions player. The full time score; Tipton Youth Lions 0, Greets Green Albion 2. Well played both teams!
